Where in the States are the Amors?
Illinois

We packed-up the car and then went to this great place for breakfast called Apple Holler with Homer and Dee. Apple Holler is one of those farms that is probably super fun in the fall when the big hay bales make great mazes and the corn is tall and apples are ripe for picking. However, despite it being an “off-season” it was still fun. They had a fantastic breakfast menu including this amazing cornbread and apple-butter. There were goats and llamas to feed and watch. And there was a fun playground area were the kids could work off some of their energy in the morning heat. It was really a nice time.

Then it was off to northern Illinois to a church in a little farm town. The area was truly cozy and picturesque. Rolling green hills dotted with silos and bold-red barns and row after row of full corn stalks. And the people there matched the scenery. They were such a friendly, warm bunch of people. We did a ministry presentation for them and then we ate pie. There was a table full of delicious homemade pies including cherry, pumpkin, custard, strawberry, and apple.

Pastor David was so welcoming and encouraging. He advocated for us, reminding the group of the difficulty of raising support and how ministry needs money to run. We stayed with him and his son that night. The kids loved playing with their little dog Rufus and throwing toys for him to get. We stayed-up late talking and hearing about some of David’s adventures as a missionary in Nicaragua.

Next morning we woke-up to the smell of Nicaraguan coffee brewing…such a beautiful thing. Now we are off to Ohio which is a bit of a drive.
